What is airCOAT?

airCOAT is a lime-based wall coating formulated for heritage and hempcrete construction.

How to use Afrimat Hemp airCoat

Afrimat Hemp airCOAT is specially formulated for the application to breathable building systems.
Or new plastered walls and wall renders during restoration of heritage buildings.
For construction in winter, ensure sufficient protection against rain and cold weather.

This could be applied to existing lime washed walls during maintenance.
Or virgin plastered hempcrete walls or wall renders.
Avoid applying paint at temperatures below 5C.
Protect from direct rain and wind during 36 hours after application.
Application
- During application to existing lime washed walls, make sure the surface is clean, dusted down and sound.
- Remove any dirt from the wall with a dry brush, wire brush or scraper.
- During application to new lime plastered walls and wall renders during restoration of heritage buildings, make sure dust has been brushed off with a dry brush.
- During application to virgin lime plastered walls and wall renders to hempcrete walls, make sure dust has been brushed off with a dry brush.
- No primer is required.
- Mix airCOAT well before use.
- Wet down the walls with water.
- After surface has dried out, apply the first coat of airCOAT.
- Up to three coats might be necessary.
- Allow at least 2-3hours between coats and 36 hours before exposure to water.
- All tools should be cleaned with water immediately after use.
Performance
- 20 Litre drums can yield 3-4m² per litre for the first coat and 5m2 per second coat.
- Best performance could be achieved at 12 °C - 27 °C.
Safety
- Contact with lime-based paint may cause irritation or skin damage.
- Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves, mask, and eye protection.
- In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with water and seek medical attention if necessary.
- After contact with skin, wash immediately with water and seek medical attention if necessary.
- Keep out of reach of children.

Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
- Store out of reach of children.
